Easy chocolate bark

I made 6 varieties of chocolate bark recently for netmums. I couldn’t believe how incredibly fun it was and a total doddle too. I will definitely be making these for edible gifts at Christmas. Everyone who tried them loved all the weird and wonderful flavour combos (I felt a bit like Willy Wonka!) and no one could believe I’d made them – charming!

Flavour-wise, I tried to cover OTT childishly sweet and gooey, to sophisticated and grown up. Just do whatever you think will look good and taste nice.

Clockwise, starting top right: white chocolate with mini marshmallows and hundreds and thousands; dark chocolate with meringue and dried cranberries; white chocolate with dried chilli flakes; dark chocolate with stem ginger and sea salt; white chocolate with popping candy, pink sugar and gold leaf; dark chocolate with brazil nuts and desiccated coconut.

Have a go – top with whatever takes your fancy! I got all my ingredients from a local Co-op – raiding the healthy aisle as well as the baking aisle. They have a great selection there, so I’m sure other supermarkets will too.

Makes: 3 ‘bars’
Prep time: 10 minutes
Cook time: NA
Total time: 10 minutes or so, depending on how many you are doing

300g of white, dark or milk chocolate – (2 x 150g bars of a quality brand chocolate)
Topping of your choice (see above)

  1. Lightly oil a baking tray (one that you use for flapjack or similar).
  2. Melt the chocolate in a microwave in short blasts, stirring at regular intervals. Or, over a pan of simmering water in a bowl.
  3. Spread it over the baking tray and top as you like.
  4. Put in the fridge to chill for about an hour or until set.
  5. Make 3 different types per ‘bar’ as I did by simply keeping to 3 neat rows.
