I am brand new to baby-led weaning. Like, one day into it! With my first child, Artie who is now 9, I literally missed the workshop. So then I just went with my instinct which was to give some finger foods when I thought he was ready, which was probs about 9/10 months. Then I simply whizzed up what we had and that was that.

With Bea, who is now almost 7, I did the same.
And now with Stan, who is 9 months’ old, I am finding he just wants to do things himself. So being immersed in the world of Insta as I now am, and baby led weaning being so huge on there, I thought I’d give it a whirl.
I don’t like hardline anything (which BLW can be) – so me being me, it will be a mix of a little feeding and a little BLW. But I know to get into it and to help him learn fast I need to embrace it, so as much as possible without starving the little chubster from this day forward we will be giving him food to eat himself. EEEEEKKKK!
There were several reasons I didn’t immerse myself sooner. I hate food waste; I am scared of choking; and I don’t want to make lots of separate meals. So with those things in mind I will be taking a relaxed approach, focusing on things I think he will like based on what he’s tried already and my instinct, with lots of soft things (sorry no raw red pepper sticks here – yet) that the whole family can eat.
Today I tried these, completely made them up myself based on some suggestions on Insta to try ‘egg cups’. I had some leftover cauli florets and some mozzarella to use up too. They were delicious! I had a couple, so did Stan, and I’ve frozen the rest.
Makes: 12 bites
Takes: 20 mins
- Handful cooked cauliflower (or any other cooked veg)
- Half a ball of mozzarella, torn into chunks
- Handful grated cheddar
- 5 eggs, beaten
- Pinch oregano
Simply mix the above tigether and pop in a little fairy cake tin with 12 holes. Or a muffin tin with 6 deeper holes for bigger bites, more like muffins. Bake for 12 mins on about 180C. Serve warm. Or freeze but defrost thoroughly before eating. They will last for a few days in the fridge.
Is it possible to make these the day before and reheat them to crisp them up?

I wouldn’t reheat as it will overcook them – they’re great cold though! X
