Blogging is a funny old thing. Vlogging is even funnier. I mean funny odd, not funny lol. Although both can be that too.
It can often feel like a daft thing to do, like shouting into an echo chamber – if you’re lucky, and put the work in, people start to shout back. You’re really putting yourself out there; at times you will think ‘who the hell do I think I am?’ and falter with a sudden loss of confidence. But then other times you love the creative space it allows for you to express yourself in any way you choose, to build your ‘brand’ any way you like. That brings into question: is it a personal space, or is it a business?
It’s both, and that can be a head-melter at times.
I have come close to jacking it all in. Maybe I should get a ‘proper job’ I have thought to myself. But how would that work with the kids, let alone the dog?! (Massive respect to mums who work full-time and juggle kids, dogs, husbands etc. I literally don’t know how they do it.)
I’m so, so lucky to be able to do this. It’s wonderful to be able to use all my skills (believe it or not there are a lot involved!) to bring something to life from nothing. But I feel the time has come to evolve and take the next step.
When I started blogging 5 years ago I wrote recipes and took really bad pictures. I evolved into a family food blogger who turned out to be quite good at what she did. I made it into a small business and realised the potential it had. But the business element zapped the joy from it, too. Being too ambitious, getting too bogged down in numbers, what other people were doing. At times I just wanted to express myself. To write about what it was like being a mum who really struggled sometimes. After all, there are more important things than cake. Not many, but one or two.
It’s bittersweet for me to say goodbye to Well Worn Whisk. But it’s not the end; it’s actually just the beginning. My blog is now called, as you may have noticed, Mrs Rachel Brady. And you don’t need to go anywhere, everything will still be right here. All the old recipes and the old blog have been redirected to my new address.
I really hope that you stay with me – but I understand if you’re not that fussed! No offense taken!
So for the stayers, what can you expect? Well, funny – and honest – articles about parenting, for sure. I want this space to be as authentic as possible. I’m not perfect – and I want to share that with you all. Photo diaries of days out. And of course recipes – still loads and LOADS of recipes. Because I am a greedy piglet and always will be.
Thanks for your continued support over the last almost 5 years. Here’s to the future!
All my social channels have updated but that won’t affect your connection with me, bar one, Twitter – I am now on a brand new channel: @mrsrachelbrady – you will have to re-follow me on there (long story, I couldn’t update my old channel) so feel free to unconnect on my old Twitter – and if you want to get in touch, now it’s rachel@mrsrachelbrady.co.uk.
How exciting!! I look forward to following the next of your adventure! X
