A Christmas visit to Chatsworth to see Mr Toad

We are so lucky to live in the Peak District, sometimes I can’t believe how many beautiful places there are within a half hour’s drive from our house. I grew up visiting Chatsworth and we still go regularly. It’s half an hour from me now, but it’s literally round the corner from my mum’s house. We always go to the adventure playground and farm, sometimes the estate for a walk. But we hadn’t been in the house and gardens for ages – years in fact.
So last week I took my mum and Bea to see the Mr Toad at Chatsworth House event. It was magical. OK, it’s not cheap, but it’s a real Christmas treat, and I’m so glad I captured it on camera to watch in years to come. In the middle of the rainiest December ever it was even a glorious day.
I think Bea was the right age to enjoy it, although older children would too. She gets in free anyhow so even if she hadn’t it wouldn’t have mattered.
The story of Wind in the Willows is told as you go from room to room, with the key events written on banners and depicted in scenes staged beautifully in the rooms with sound effects and even people dressed up in some cases (imagine that, being dressed up as a Badger for 2 months!).
It’s on until 3rd January so there’s still time to go and see it.
